Professional voice users are a specific group of occupations that rely on a fully functioning voice. Their exposure to intense vocal demands results in a high prevalence of voice disorders which impacts physical, mental, and social wellbeing as well as professional activities.
Vocal Physiotherapy is an emerging specialty, and there is increasing awareness of its role within a multidisciplinary Voice Clinic.
With knowledge of functional anatomy; musculoskeletal health; neurology; respiratory function; and exercise prescription, physiotherapists can make a valuable contribution to vocal rehabilitation. This article aims to examine the role and scope of physiotherapy in the rehabilitation and care of professional voice users.
